ABOUT ME

BA Psychology – UC Berkeley

MA Clinical Psychology – Antioch University Los Angeles

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I spent a good deal of my early career treating substance use at a Jewish nonprofit treatment center on the west side of Los Angeles, called Beit T’Shuvah.  I learned plenty about how our history and family dynamics can impact our lives and behavior, but also how important it is to be patient and compassionate while we look to make changes in our lives.  And we sometimes need a little help.  I'm glad you've begun that process, and I encourage anyone I work with to ask lots of questions while choosing a therapist.

In addition to receiving excellent group training at Beit T'Shuvah, I became a member of the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles (GPALA) and received direct supervision under a past president while working in private practice.

I also love working with new and expecting fathers. It's common to experience a complex flood of emotions, and many parents – dads included – need a little help navigating through bigger postpartum feelings.  Please click below for more information on Dads.

WELCOME

Sometimes we don't even consider asking for help when we're feeling stuck, so I'm glad you've begun that process.  People often come to me for therapy for perspective on their relationships, or to help spot unhelpful thinking, or maybe they're in a big life transition and they're finding it hard to adjust and settle.  My style is relational, compassionate and curious, and when appropriate, I think humor is a wonderful tool in healing and transformation.

FOR DADS

When I became a new dad a few years ago, I was struck by both the depth of the emotional and psychological journey I found myself on, but also by the limited resources for us dads.  Groups and workshops during the day for dads, for example, haven’t quite caught up to the shifting climate of work-from-home or stay-at-home dads.  The limited research we do have on postpartum anxiety and depression in dads suggests men experience this in anywhere from 10-25% of cases.  It makes sense when you consider the massive shift in identity, the pressure to be even more involved in your child’s life but perhaps without the model growing up to have given you the blueprint, all while the state of the world has felt more uncertain.   Furthermore, as you can imagine, the impact of the pandemic on new parents was tremendous, and I'm not sure we quite understand it yet. Irritability, excessive worry and/or lack of interest in things you used to enjoy might signal the need for extra support.  You are not alone.
